The Light to See: Psalm 36

For many days and many nights
I saw my life by my own light.
My light to darkness on my bed,
When evil thoughts woke in my head—
They filled my heart and bent my ways,
Your light cast out by my dark days.
But blame on you I cannot cast
Right judgment should be on me vast.
But out from you instead comes love
Poured down from heavens high above.
Righteous and faithful have you been
Your steadfast love to me again.
There is no worth found in my life
That you should free me from my strife.
But love flows from your nature pure,
The promises from you are sure,
And from your fountain also flows
Your light and life, so you I know.
And now upon my bed I see
Anew by light that comes from thee.
