Clearly does the bird’s song ring,
Always knowing what to sing.
Ne’er a thing can stifle tongue.
Joyful tune from him is sung.
But man’s voice is not like theirs,
Heart and tongue exist in pairs.
When your laws our hearts don’t love,
Voice cannot lift praise above.
When I walk on wicked path,
Leading to eternal wrath,
Truly truth I cannot speak
‘Fore high kings or lowly meek.
Guard my heart each breaking day
So your truth I’ll truly say.
Help me love your righteous law
So from lips truth won’t withdraw.
Then like all creation’s sound
On my lips will truth be found.
Ringing to the sons of men,
Truth I’ll sing out once again.
