Psalm 126: Freedom

 From lands afar you brought
     The sons you took away,
And for their lives you fought
Through years, and in each day.
 From prisons they have come,
     The exiles over seas,
And to your home they run
To find their place with thee.

From chains that bound my soul
     With darkness evermore,
 From deepest sin’s dark hole,
With love my soul you tore.
You tore me from my hell
And brought me back to you,
Your work in me will tell
Of all your blood can do.

But still there are more men
     Cast far in distant land
 That often ask just when
You’ll free them by your hand.
 Each day with heavy chain
     They serve lords from afar.
Each day with sweat and pain
They seek for where you are.

 Yet even though I’m free
By all that you have done,
 And even though I see
That to you men will run,
 There in my soul remains
A hole so dark and black
That fills my day with pains
     And heavy bends my back.

 I want you to return
     To free the captive last,
And from my soul to burn
     My sin from future’s past.
With joy then will I tread,
     With pleasure I will sing
Of life brought from the dead,
To the presence of the King.
