Psalm 143: Homeward Bound

 Down at lonely table
     far into the night,
I know that I am able
to fly so far from light.

 So quickly do I fly
     far away from good
 Into dark and evil sky
     to seek for deadly food.

 But even as I soar
     far away from you,
 Loving mercy’s tender roar
     calls to my soul, “Renew!”

But as my flight turns back
     to the golden sun,
 Sky with many minions black
     hinders my homeward run.

 Your mercies lift my wings
     high above the fray.
 Of forgiveness your voice sings
     and calls me unto day,

 And to a future feast
     with your holy fare
Where all, greatest to the least,
     dine with the Godhead there.
