Chained Hope: Psalm 38

Days have come, and days have gone,
Burdens have I carried long.
Sins of mine loom in the past,
Shadow o’er this day is cast.
Sin still tempts me in the night,
It still tempts me in the light.
Where my feet have found to tread,
Burden follows, bringing dread.
From the past, old voices haunt,
Making face and body gaunt.
Yes, I know that you forgive,
And new life to me you give.
Yes, to you my mute voice cries,
But my ears still hear their lies.
Lord, I’m waiting to be free
From the lying chains on me.
Though you’ve paid my sin’s full debt,
Foolish past I can’t forget.
Voices false far from me take,
Purge me from regretful ache.
Life so true I long to know,
Free from chains I want to grow.
Till the time that I’m not bound,
Lord, let my hope in you be found.
