Holy Ground: Psalm 65

When rays so bright pierce darkest night,
    When you our sins forgive,
When up from death we live,
Our waking eyes see glory’s light
And life to us you give.

The power of the mountain high,
    The valleys sweet below,
    The flower’s smell I know,
From nothing these did you bring nigh
    And joy to us bestow.

The rolling of the raging sea,
The fins that crest the wave,
    The urchins in dark cave,
Just like the fish in waters free
    I live because you gave.

The stalwart trees that stand so proud,
    The canopy so fair,
    The peace that’s under there,
And like this verdant leafy shroud,
    Love’s cover do you share.

All fields holding meat and grain,
    All strong plants bearing fruit,
All food that comes on root,
All ever fresh by gentle rain,
    Grace free through heaven’s chute.

Your loving hands hold all you made,
    Your creatures great and small,
    Your image bearers all,
And then eternal life conveyed
To those who heed your call.
