The Journey’s End: Psalm 61

I know, my God, you are above
Always watching with steadfast love.
But in this life I’ve traveled far
Never quite knowing where you are.

Yet even so I cry to thee
With hope that one day I will see
‘Cross battle plains and standing high
Your tower strong against the sky.

Against all hope I must admit
I often thought I’d not see it.
Yet still I know my heart will leap
When seeing tower of your keep.

So lead me now to tower’s base
Through battles dark to lighted place,
Through mundane fights of normal day,
And guide my feet on holy way.

Lord, guide me to this house of yours
To comfort’s place where love assures,
Where love caresses by your hand
That’s been with me throughout life’s land.

And even though the tower’s sight
Is not present, please help me fight,
Please give me strength against the foes
Who in my heart dark evil sows.

And build around my heart a wall,
A rampart that will never fall,
A fortress keeping evil out
But lets love through with joyous shout.

Your love that kneads and keeps my heart,
Creating daily a fresh start,
A heart that’s new and sings your praise
Through battles now to end of days.

Then when for me the last day dawns
And golden sun turns azure bronze,
Let my sight in final hour
See the gates of holy tower.

This has a Lord of the Rings feel to it which I like. 🙂 I appreciate that it takes my imagination to a place where I’m transported beyond the mundane and invited into a far grander story…and what’s better yet, it’s a true story.
