The Sweet Touch of Pain: Psalm 70

How often I desire you
Would speed your hand to save
And make my life now ever new
    And over troubles pave.

I want my life to now be sweet,
    My enemies to shame.
Lord, place them underneath your feet
    For glory of your name.

But patient I have never been
    When life produces pain.
My heart breaks, my voice cries, “Lord, When,
When will you stop the rain?”

Yet rain and pain is your sweet touch
    To bring about the best,
And even though endure I much,
All leads to your good rest.

So help me, Lord, on you to wait
    Your patience to me give.
And help me stand under life’s weight
    And ever with you live.
