Psalm 119 – Yodh: Persistence

Ev’ry day my knowledge grows,
Wisdom’s depths to ever know,
But my hope comes ever slow.

Before sin stands my weak heart
From your ways I oft’ depart.
My life’s pleasure falls apart.

Lonely and in pain I knew,
Hope was not in something true.
How I wish I’d trusted you.

Other trials there would be,
Life is never trouble-free,
But this guilt I would not see.

Thank you for your love steadfast
And new mercies that long last
And away you’ve not me cast.

Now, when in me sin is stirred,
Let me hope in what I’ve heard –
Spirit’s voice throughout your Word.

And when then in you I trust
Not my dark and evil lust,
I’ll rejoice for you are just.

Guide me now to love your ways,
Walking with you all my days,
Never far from holy gaze.

The corresponding e-mail to this entry caught my eye because on the first of the year, I asked God for a word for the year and the word I heard was “persistence.”

This entry captures something timely for me and others that I’m talking to right now. We persist to the breakthrough. The verse that someone gave me today is when Jesus says to Peter that Satan has asked to sift him but he will come out the other side still standing. We persist to the breakthrough.
