Psalm 122: Joy’s Call

 Can ever true joy
 Come through human ploy?
Will not our hearts cry out -
Twist and scream and shout -
When joys that we did take
Are found to be a fake?
 It’s in that darkest night
When joy is out of sight,
 We often hear a call,
 Slight echoes ever small.

This sound we hear is sweet
It calls to us to meet,
So through the night we run
To hope of dawn’s new sun,
 With rays over the earth
Of light and joy and mirth
 That shakes the darkest caves
 And empties all the graves,
 So death that was within
 Is no longer found therein.

 Joy’s call continues long,
 Loud grows this distant song.
 This song from high above
Earth’s lone song sung of love
That calls us to be free
From who we used to be.
 It calls us to rejoice
With new and loud clear voice.
It calls us from our fears
 And wipes away our tears.

 The song draws ever near
Its words then do we hear,
 “Come to the holy throne
And you’ll not be alone -
All those who come are mine,
 And I am ever thine.
 You’ve looked for joy below,
 But here you’ll ever know
 True joy and inner peace
 That will not ever cease.”
